Human security

What, in your own words, is ‘cyber resilience’ and how is it different than ‘protection’ or ’security’?

cyber resilience prepares for recover from cyber incidents and the goal is to minimize operational disruption, financial loss, and reputational damage

a. What is one thing you can do to build cyber resilience?

One thing I can do to build cyber resilience is to educate people about cybersecurity through presentations and discussions. Raising awareness helps people recognize cyber threats avoid common mistakes and respond appropriately to incidents.

b. What might get in the way of building cyber resilience?

A lack of cybersecurity awareness can make it difficult to build cyber resilience. Without proper education and training, people may not recognize cyber threats or know how to respond to them.

c. Why is cyber resilience an effective response to human-centric vulnerabilities?

A cybersecurity culture is defined as the “values, attitudes and beliefs that drive cyber-resilient behaviors”. The culture is created by managerial mechanisms like governance mechanisms, reward systems, consequences, leadership, priorities, performance evaluation, and more.

a. What are 2-3 behaviors you would like to see the people do to help the organization be cyber secure?

-Report suspicious emails or activities immediately so the organization can respond quickly to potential threats

-Use strong, unique passwords and enable multi-factor authentication whenever possible

b. What are the values, attitudes and beliefs that would drive these behaviors?

People should value responsibility and security, have a positive attitude toward following cybersecurity rules, and believe that everyone plays an important role in protecting the organization from cyber threats.

c. What are the mechanisms you can employ to create the values, attitudes and beliefs?

Regular training, awareness presentations, practical exercises, and open discussions can help create a culture where people value cybersecurity and take responsibility for protecting the organization.

Regular training, awareness presentations, practical exercises, and open discussions can help create a culture where people value cybersecurity and take responsibility for protecting the organization.

Organizations can build these values through regular training, awareness sessions, practical exercises, and open communication. This helps people understand the importance of cybersecurity and encourages them to make safer decisions

a. For each concern, explain why this is a concern? Provide a short example to illustrate the risk you see. Be as specific as possible.

b. What behavior(s) would minimize the risk of a negative impact for this concern?

c. What is a mechanism you can use to drive the values, attitudes, and beliefs that would encourage the behavior(s) you seek?

Regular cybersecurity training, awareness presentations, phishing simulations, and clear communication can help build the values, attitudes, and beliefs needed to encourage secure behavior. These activities increase awareness, improve knowledge, and motivate employees to follow security best practices.
