Fab Futures > Cybersecurity¶
Hello!¶
My initial interest in Cybersecurity began with my fascination with Hackers. From the 1995 movie with that name, or the movie War Games, the anime Summer Warsto the characters in William Gibson’s Neuromancer, I have always found the idea of people who could get to the heart of computer programs and networks to be romantic and cool.
Ofcourse, while I still have incredible respect for people with the skills to bypass computer security, I also know how destructive the actions of hackers can be. The Veritasium video documentary titled “The Internet Was Weeks Away From Disaster and No One Knew” that talked about a Linux vulnerability that would have allowed a bad actor to have backdoor access into any computer running Linux…including those used by governments.
I am excited by the prospect that I will be able to gain a basic understanding of cybersecurity so that I will not be at the mercy of such bad actors.
